Mexico's biggest music festival, VIVE LATINO celebrates it's quinceañera with an epic 4-day line-up!
This year's most awaited musical event is near! The 15th edition of Mexico's Vive Latino festival! This monster festival has grown from a small one-day show held 15 year's ago to a huge production featuring hundreds of international artists from all over the world performing over a 4-day jam packed multiple stage arena in the heart of Mexico City!
You can read more about the history of the festival in the January edition of Kesta Magazine, but for the sake of this blog, I will share with you the high points of this year's 2014 Quinceañera edition scheduled for Thursday, March 27th through Sunday, March 30, 2014 at el Foro Sol in Mexico City.
VIVE LATINO 2014 - the 411
Bigger Really is Better!
This year the Festival is back to 4 FULL days! Last year the 4th day was canceled due to Morrissey calling in sick (actually he was super sick with pneumonia but what the hey) those of us that were there made the most of it by hitting up some Latin Alternative bars in Polanco (that's the Beverly Hills of Mexico City) and the rest of that story falls under "what happens in Mexico, stays in Mexico" history. No seriously... that's what mezcal (tequila's big brother) will do to ya'! Anyway I digress... this year's festival is HUGE with the most bands appearing to date (151 TOTAL) and with the most variety in genre's that I've seen to-date.
Who would have thought that classic Norteño stars Los Tigres del Norte would be sharing the stage with the likes of Calle 13, Maldita Vecindad, Nine Inch Nails, and Primal Scream among others... seriously!
It's more than just music!
It's a real celebration of Mexican and Latino culture. Check out this promotional video mega organizers Ocesa put together where the main protagonist is not the Vive Latino but Mexico City itself...
The festival also holds an art show, graffiti exposition, films, and emerging artistic expressions. From its beginnings, the cultural market "Tianguis Cultural El Chopo" has been an important part of its landscape... who knew that in addition to seeing your favorite bands like Julieta Venegas, Nine Inch Nails, and Enanitos Verdes you could take a break by going shopping for some new clothes, books, albums, and movies? Seriously it's trippy!
Last But Not Least - THE LINEUP!!
Here is the breakdown of the line-up per day. Expected attendance is 70,000 fans PER DAY! WOWZA!
Thursday, March 27th features none other than Nine Inch Nails, AFI, the return of Zurdok, Los Bunkers, Hello Seahorse!, Los Planetas, and many more!
Friday, March 28 features Arcade Fire, Los Tres, Ely Guerra, Jumbo, Ana Tijoux, and Banda Bostik!
Saturday, March 29th you can check out none-other than Los Tigres del Norte, Calle 13, Maldita Vecindad, El Gran Silencio, Primal Scream, and super group De La Tierra!
Sunday, March 30th on the last day of the festival you will definitely need to save some energy because you get to see Placebo, Enanitos Verdes, Fito Paez, Julieta Venegas, Zoe, La Gusana Ciega, Los Cafres, and La Vida Boheme... oooh yeah!
Still not convinced? Check out this promotional VIVE LATINO video featuring a few short seconds of each artist performing at the festival this year... it's INCREDIBLE the different genres being represented. It's time to call your travel agent and head to Mexico City for this EPIC festival!
